The Lyndhurst Recreation Department sponsors a full range of activities for children and adults who have developmental disabilities.

The Lyndhurst Adult Workshop is an activity program for adults who have a variety of developmental disabilities.  They meet Monday through Friday from 8:45 am to 3:15 pm, including transportation to and from their homes.  The program includes training in job skills, personal awareness and activities of daily living.  It also includes armchair aerobics, bowling and community outings.  The participants are residents of Lyndhurst.  Some of them have been in the workshop since it began 35 years ago; others have joined more recently at the end of their school programs.  The members are like family and watch out for the welfare of each member.

Integrated Recreation is an extensive program for persons of all ages.  It is designed to provide equal access to recreation for children and adults who have special needs, as well as helping them develop life long leisure skills and form meaningful personal relationships with peers and neighbors.

For young children, there are programs emphasizing physical fitness and social skill development:  Mommy and Me for ages 3-5 and Gumnoree for ages 6-11.

As the children gain skills and grow, we have dancercise for ages 12-adult, canteen gatherings for teens and adults and community outings for teens and adults.

We also provide safe, non-competitive skill development programs in soccer, basketball, bocce, baseball and swimming.

In the area of creative expression, we provide six weeks of art classes for ages 8 to adult and six weeks of musical theatre which culminates in a performance for peers, families and community members.
