Marriage Civil Unions

Marriage License and Civil Unions

As of February 19, 2007, New Jersey marriages and civil unions follow the same application process. The application is filed in the NJ municipality where either member of the couple lives. If neither member of the couple is a NJ resident, the application must be filed in the NJ municipality where the ceremony will occur. A witness, over the age of 18, must accompany the couple. Please bring:

  • Identification: Please bring two forms of I.D. for each member of the couple. One of these must be a certified birth certificate. The witness must provide one form of I.D.

  • Proof of Lyndhurst residency: Provide for one member of the couple (or if both partners reside out of state, provide proof of current residency and the Lyndhurst location where ceremony will occur).

  • Legal Papers: Required if either partner has participated in a previous marriage/civil union/domestic partnership. Legal papers must be presented proving divorce or dissolution of civil union or domestic partnership.

  • Ceremony Information: Provide date and location of the marriage or civil union ceremony. Provide name (and his/her affiliation) of the person performing the ceremony.

  • License Fee: $28.00

  • A waiting period of 72 hours is required before the license may be received. It is valid for 30 days from date of issue. If the marriage or civil union does not occur within that time period, a new application is required.
The certified copy will be located in the municipality where the ceremony occurs. When the ceremony is held in Lyndhurst, the certified copy of the license is $7.00.
If you would like Mayor Richard J. DiLascio to perform the wedding or civil ceremony, please call his secretary, Carrie Sammartino, at 201-804-2450.

Come Dance with Us!

Lyndhurst residents learn fancy footwork

It wasn’t too long ago that Township Public Affairs Commissioner Brian Haggerty launched the free seminar “Mannerly Speaking” to impart the virtues of “Dining and Social Etiquette” for all Lyndhurst residents. In his effort to further enhance the lives of young and old alike, Brian has literally added a next step to his popular program …a dance step!

On Thursday, March 11th, at the Lyndhurst Health Department Building, a free course entitled ”Social Dancing for Social Confidence” will begin. The program will teach Lyndhurstians how to enjoy themselves at any venue that includes social dancing. Township resident Andrew Abrams and his troupe of dance instructor specialists will teach the basics of most of the popular partner dances including: Merengue, Rumba, Cha Cha, Mambo / Salsa, Hustle, Swing, Foxtrot, Waltz, and Argentine Tango.

The program will be comprised of a series of classes over a one-year term that will end in a gala formal celebration. Students will joyfully exercise their newfound skills in social correctness and aptitude at the dinner table as well as on the dance floor at the First Annual Lyndhurst Ball. The party will include performances by professional dancers as well as the students themselves. The Thursday night classes will be conducted on a bi-weekly basis; and will include a 2-hour lesson with practice session. Class time will be from 7:30pm to 9:30pm.

Mr. Abrams guarantees that anyone with two left feet will be cured of that affliction; and they will become confident social dancers at any social function, for the rest of their lives. Mr. Abrams says, “Dance is great for the mind, body, and soul; and all are invited to enjoy those benefits”. For registration, you can call Phyllis at the Lyndhurst Health Department.
