Mayor Giangeruso has been a dedicated life-long public servant to the people of Lyndhurst. A graduate of the Bergen County Police Academy, Giangeruso served as an officer in the Lyndhurst Police Department and rose to Deputy Police Chief before retiring in the late 1990s. Now elected to his third term on the Lyndhurst Board of Commissioners, Mayor Giangeruso looks forward to continuing his work as Commissioner of Public Safety. Mayor Giangeruso has tirelessly worked to bring the town’s public safety into the 21st century, and under his direction the Lyndhurst Police Department has received the CALEA Law Enforcement Accreditation – the Gold Standard in Public Safety.
As a proud father of two sons, Robert Jr. and Shawn, nothing is more important to Mayor Giangeruso than family. In addition to his career in public service, Giangeruso is a founding member of the Lyndhurst Italian-American Club, serves as a St. Barnabas and Clara Maas Hospitals’ Board Member, and was voted the Lyndhurst Ed Fund Man of the Year. He also coached the Lyndhurst Junior Football League for years, and is a parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel.
