Senior Citizens Activities Parks & Public Property: Commissioner Thomas DiMaggio, Director

Listed are some of the activities held for seniors. More specific details are distributed quarterly in the Parks Department Newsletter.

They will also be listed on the home page of this website, in the South Bergenite, The Observer and The Daily Voice.

  •   Evening Trips to Broadway plays - Price includes transportation to and from the venue by town bus. Cost varies with the price of the play ticket.
  •   Afternoon Outings for Senior Citizens for lunch and show. One held in the Spring and one in the Fall. Venue may be either at the Stoney Hill Inn, Fiesta or Brownstone.
  •   FREE Senior Citizen Monthly Evening Meal on the last Wednesday of the month from January through October. The event is held at the Carucci Apartments which is located at 281 Stuyvesant Avenue near Willow. Doors open at 4:30 – dinner served at 5:00. Call 201-896-1629 to sign up.
  •   FREE Senior Citizen Afternoon Movies – Held on the first and third Wednesday of each month (except for July and August) at the Senior Citizen Center on Cleveland Avenue starting at 12:00 noon. Pizza, hot dogs, coffee and soda are served. Call the Parks Department if you need a ride (201) 804-2482.
  •   FREE Senior Citizen Afternoon Lunch and entertainment – Held in April at Senior Citizen Center on Cleveland Avenue.
  •   FREE Senior Thanksgiving Dinner – held on the Monday before Thanksgiving in November at the Senior Citizen Center on Cleveland Avenue. Dinner and Entertainment. Transportation is available if needed.

1st Grade Recreation Boys Basketball Registration

Lyndhurst Recreation Boys Basketball - 1st Grade Instructional League

The Lyndhurst Recreation Boys Basketball League is holding online registration, open now and closing on December 1st 2019, for the boys 1st grade instructional league. The registration fee is $25 and includes a T-Shirt and a ball.

This is a great opportunity for first grade boys to learn the fundamentals of the game in a fun and encouraging environment before entering league play in second grade.

Practices will be Saturday mornings, beginning in January 2020.

Girls Basketball Registrations 2019

If you missed the registrations last week, you can still sign up for Girls Basketball.  Registration will be held at the Recreation Center’s Concession Stand on the following dates:

Halloween Parade

Commissioner Tom DiMaggio, Director of the Department of Parks & Recreation announces that the Annual Halloween Parade will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2019 with a rain date of Sunday, October 27, 2019

Our “Trick or Treaters” will assemble in the Town Hall Park located on Delafield Avenue at 1:00 p.m.  As we have done in previous years, the youngsters will march past the Carucci Apartments so our seniors will have the opportunity to see them. 

Children of all ages are welcome to participate.  The children will enjoy pumpkin painting, a petting zoo, face painting, dancing to Paul the DJ, a horse and buggy ride, train rides and will receive a goody bag.

Rockettes Christmas Spectacular

The Department of Parks & Recreation, under the direction of Commissioner Tom DiMaggio, have obtained tickets for two shows at Rockefeller Center to see the Rockettes Christmas Spectacular.

The first show will be on Monday, December 9th, 2019 at 11:00 AM.  The price for the orchestra seats and transportation is $95.00 each.  The bus will leave the NJ Transit lot at 9:30 AM.

The second show will be on Monday, December 16th, 2019 at 8:00 PM.  The price for the orchestra seats plus transportation is $105.00 each.  The bus will leave the Parks Department at 6:00 PM.

There is a limit of purchasing 4 tickets per person.  Please call the Parks Department at (201) 804-2482 to reserve your ticket.
