NAMI Bergen County Offers Free 7-Week Program for Families of Younger Children with Emotional Issues

Beginning Thursday, September 14th and ending on November 2nd, The Bergen County Chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness will be sponsoring their Basics in Bergen!, a free education program for families of younger children with emotional issues.  The seven week program (will not meet on September 21st for Rosh Hashanah) will be held from 7:00 to 9:30 pm at Bergen’s Promise, 3 University Plaza, 3rd Floor, Hackensack, NJ (take University Plaza Drive off River Street with Burger King as a landmark to Building #3)

Basics in Bergen, a course designed for parents and other primary caregivers of younger children, is taught by trained parents who have a similar lived experience with their own children.  This course offers education and support, learning and practical insights for families.

Availability of The Respite Care Program in Bergen County

For families or individuals, age 18 or over, providing unpaid basic daily care at home to a frail elderly and/or disabled adult age 18 or over, or individual  at risk of long-term institutionalization due to inability of the caregiver to continue in that role, there is the availability of the services of The Respite Care Program in Bergen County,  coordinated by the Bergen County Department of Human Services, Division on Disability Services through funds provided by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services.

School Supply Donations

The Lyndhurst Health Department, under the direction of Commissioner Karen Haggerty, is collecting donations for students in need. Items of interest are backpacks, dividers, folders, loose leaf paper, marble notebooks, 3 and 5 subject notebooks, pens, dry erase markers, tissues, wet wipes, 3-ring binders and glue sticks. Donations can be dropped off at the Health Department at 253 Stuyvesant Avenue from 9 a.m. through 4 p.m. Please deliver donations prior to August 31, 2017. If you have a child in need, please contact the Health Department at 201-804-2500 to schedule a pick-up of the needed supplies. 

Free CPR Classes

Emergency Squad - 7/7/2017 3:05:03 PM

The Lyndhurst Police Emergency Squad, with sponsorship from the Lyndhurst Health Department, is offering Free CPR Classes for township residents and a discounted CPR Class to Non Residents.  The certification will be American Heart association Heart saver program which includes Adult, Child, and Infant CPR along with AED Training.

American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR/AED is recommended for everyone including daycare providers, pilots, fitness instructors, warehouse workers, office staff, lifeguards, teachers, church staff, safety committee staff, or anyone who is not a health care provider.
