From the Mayor’s Desk: Heroes & Legends - Lyndhurst’s First Responders

AAA - 3/20/2017 10:27:00 AM

Our society talks about heroes and legends, often attributing such terms to sports stars and celebrities. Lyndhurst has its own heroes and legends. They are our public safety first responders.

On Friday night March 17th, at a fundraising event at Michael's Riverside restaurant many of our township residents witnessed the courageous professionalism and fearless heart of our emergency medical technicians, volunteer firefighters and police. They can be credited with nothing less than the rescue of a dear friend from death.

Proving that first responders are never truly off-the-clock, our devoted Lyndhurst volunteer EMTs and volunteer firefighters in the room sprang into action within seconds of a dear friend suffering a seemingly fatal heart failure. Shortly thereafter, the police and ambulance arrived with a defibrillator and worked hard on the unconscious victim who had been unresponsive with no pulse.

It wasn't long before their extraordinary efforts found success. By the time our heroes finished their work, our friend was awake with a renewed pulse. He gave us some high fives and a thumbs up signaling his startling recovery.

Thanks to our devoted men and women who volunteer their time for the wellbeing and safety of our Lyndhurst residents, a stricken husband, father and grandfather is alive today.

This is a reminder that we cannot take our public safety personnel and first responders for granted. The community is forever grateful for their unselfish service and the miracles, small and large, they perform every day whether on the job or not. These men and women have steel spines and hearts of lions.

As Mayor and on behalf of the Board of Commissioners, I will publically acknowledge each first responder for their immediate heroic actions with a proclamation of recognition and appreciation.

My office and the people of Lyndhurst are exceptionally proud of our public safety team. We are especially pleased that tragedy was averted because of their expertise and lightning-like action.
