Mayor Robert B. Giangeruso has secured his sixth term as a Lyndhurst Commissioner, leading his Lyndhurst Strong slate to victory. His team won all five seats in the election, with Giangeruso himself receiving 1,929 votes, making him the top vote-getter

Mayor Robert Giangeruso has been a dedicated, lifelong public servant to the people of Lyndhurst. A graduate of the Bergen County Police Academy, he served in the Lyndhurst Police Department, rising to Deputy Police Chief before retiring in the late 1990s. His commitment to public safety has continued throughout his tenure in local government, now serving his sixth term as a township commissioner and leading as Commissioner of Public Safety. Under his direction, the Lyndhurst Police Department has achieved CALEA Law Enforcement Accreditation, recognized as the Gold Standard in Public Safety.

As Commissioner of Public Safety, Mayor Giangeruso remains vigilant in ensuring the safety and security of Lyndhurst’s residents, striving to keep the township a protected and thriving community. His leadership has focused on modernizing law enforcement, advancing public safety initiatives, and fostering a secure environment for families and businesses.

Mayor Giangeruso's vision for Lyndhurst focuses on a balanced approach to redevelopment not overdevelopment and community well-being. His vision focuses on redevelopment that is smart, sustainable, and beneficial for all residents, all while ensuring the community remains safe and secure.

His priorities include:

  • Smart Redevelopment: Advocating for thoughtful town planning that enhances Lyndhurst's infrastructure while preserving its unique character.
  • Public Safety & Security: Maintaining vigilant oversight as Commissioner of Public Safety, ensuring that law enforcement remains modernized and residents feel protected.
  • Education & Youth Development: Continuing annual contributions (funded by fees from his services performing marriages) to Lyndhurst High School McLean Awards, supporting scholarships for deserving students.
  • Community Engagement: Strengthening local traditions, supporting organizations like the Lyndhurst Italian-American Club, and fostering a strong sense of civic pride.
  • Family & Legacy: Upholding a vision rooted in family values, as a devoted father and grandfather, ensuring that Lyndhurst remains a wonderful place for future generations.

As a proud father to his two sons, Robert Jr. and Shawn, family remains his greatest priority—especially his two beautiful granddaughters, who bring him immense joy.

His dedication extends to community service, as a founding member of the Lyndhurst Italian-American Club, board member of St. Barnabas and Clara Maas Hospitals, and Lyndhurst Ed Fund Man of the Year. Additionally, throughout many years he had also coached the Lyndhurst Junior Football League and remains a faithful parishioner at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel.

Mayor Giangeruso’s leadership continues to shape Lyndhurst’s future, balancing progress with preservation for the town he has long served as a lifelong resident.
